Already have NEM or SELCO solar? Check before adding panels

Treat expansion as a change to an existing system, not a new panel-shopping exercise. Identify the current programme and approval documents first. SEDA’s Solar ATAP information excludes an account already registered under NEM or SELCO from simply applying as a new ATAP customer.
Recover the original records
Find the equipment schedule, commissioned capacity, account, approved drawings and contract. Record proposed changes separately: replacement inverter, more modules, storage or a new connection arrangement. If records are missing, ask the responsible provider to confirm the existing state rather than reconstructing approval from photos.
Ask the responsible authority route
The applicable process depends on region and scheme. ECoS information also distinguishes applications involving alterations under its Sabah SELCO route. Do not read one region’s change process as another’s. Ask the utility or authorised service provider what assessment and submission apply to the actual installation.
Review compatibility and obligations
A change can affect equipment compatibility, maintenance access, warranties and the accepted design. Obtain a revised scope with testing and documentation responsibilities. Do not reconnect or add modules yourself. Keep any proposed savings conditional until the revised technical and regulatory path is confirmed.
Before you decide
- Identify current programme, account and approved capacity.
- Collect original drawings, equipment and commissioning records.
- List proposed changes and the required authority checks.
- Confirm compatibility, warranty and revised handover scope.
Discuss your property with HOMI
Homi Solar Malaysia can help turn these questions into a clear property brief. Start with your location, electricity use and the decision you need to make. Keep bills, identity records and detailed customer information in an appropriate private channel, not public comments. An initial discussion is not engineering approval, an accepted quotation or a rebate decision. Ask for a dated written scope, the assumptions used, exclusions and the next responsible party. Recheck changing policy with the relevant authority before committing; do not treat a general article as a personalised design or a guaranteed outcome.

Frequently asked questions
Can an existing NEM account simply start a fresh ATAP application?
Do not assume so; SEDA states the existing NEM or SELCO account exclusion and the authority must confirm any applicable route.
Does spare roof space authorise more panels?
No. Technical suitability and the permitted change process require checking.
Can I treat a replacement inverter as an unrelated purchase?
Not without checking compatibility, approved design and any required submissions.
