AFA and your solar budget: compare bills without guessing future tariffs

HOMI Solar Malaysia: AFA and your solar budget: compare bills without guessing future tariffs (illustrative project photograph)

Compare energy use and bill adjustments separately. TNB’s 15 September statement describes AFA as a two-way fuel and exchange-rate adjustment, replacing ICPT from July 2025. A lower or higher monthly total alone does not prove a solar system has changed performance. This guide does not claim an October AFA rate.

Build a like-for-like baseline

Collect consecutive bills covering a full year where possible. Record billing days, imported kWh, tariff category, adjustments and changes in occupancy. A longer billing period or extra air-conditioning use can make the total rise even when the system is working.

Ask for transparent assumptions

Request the proposal’s assumed tariff date, daytime consumption, export treatment and maintenance allowance. Keep generation forecasts separate from currency savings. Ask to see a sensitivity case rather than one fixed return figure.

Use the actual month’s bill

After installation, compare the same season and account. Mark tariff or adjustment changes in the review. If an app and utility bill differ, ask which meter each number represents and whether the periods match.

Before you decide

  • Keep usage in kWh, bill value in RM and billing days in separate columns.
  • Label every tariff or adjustment assumption with a month and official reference.
  • Compare a base case with higher and lower energy-price assumptions without claiming predictions.
  • Review consumption changes before blaming a panel or inverter for a higher bill.

Discuss your property with HOMI

Homi Solar Malaysia can help turn these questions into a clear property brief. Start with your location, electricity use and the decision you need to make. Keep bills, identity records and detailed customer information in an appropriate private channel, not public comments. An initial discussion is not engineering approval, an accepted quotation or a rebate decision. Ask for a dated written scope, the assumptions used, exclusions and the next responsible party. Recheck changing policy with the relevant authority before committing; do not treat a general article as a personalised design or a guaranteed outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Does AFA change solar generation?

It is a billing adjustment, not a measurement of the electricity produced by your panels.

Can HOMI guarantee a fixed monthly saving?

No. Homi Solar Malaysia should assess actual usage and current billing rules, with assumptions made explicit.

Where should I check the applicable adjustment?

Use the actual utility bill and current official utility or regulator information, not an undated social screenshot.

This article reflects official information checked on 1 October 2026 and is general guidance. Programme rules, tariff treatment, approval and actual savings remain subject to the latest PETRA, SEDA, Energy Commission and TNB requirements plus the property bill, roof and usage pattern.
