Cash purchase, PPA or lease: compare the solar contract, not just the deposit

Different commercial arrangements can change equipment ownership and payment obligations. Compare the actual written offers on the same installation scope and consumption assumptions. A low initial payment does not by itself prove a lower total commitment or a better fit.
Map ownership and obligations
Ask who owns the system during and after the term, who handles maintenance and what you must pay even if your usage changes. For a PPA or lease proposal, request the charging basis and any escalation or minimum commitment. The advertised label alone does not define the contract.
Compare equivalent scenarios
Use the same roof, demand pattern, generation assumptions and evaluation period. Separate energy charges, installation extras, maintenance, insurance and any transfer or removal costs. Include a lower-generation or changed-occupancy scenario. Do not treat a provider’s forecast as a promised return.
Read the exit pathway
Ask what happens on relocation, roof repairs, sale, default, early termination or end of term. Verify the counterparty and obtain suitable professional advice for legal or financial interpretation. SEDA’s programme information and technical references are context, not an endorsement of a particular lender or offer.
Before you decide
- Record ownership, term, payment basis and maintenance responsibilities.
- Compare full scope under the same assumptions.
- Read escalation, minimum-payment and early-exit conditions.
- Seek appropriate advice before accepting unclear contractual obligations.
Discuss your property with HOMI
Homi Solar Malaysia can help turn these questions into a clear property brief. Start with your location, electricity use and the decision you need to make. Keep bills, identity records and detailed customer information in an appropriate private channel, not public comments. An initial discussion is not engineering approval, an accepted quotation or a rebate decision. Ask for a dated written scope, the assumptions used, exclusions and the next responsible party. Recheck changing policy with the relevant authority before committing; do not treat a general article as a personalised design or a guaranteed outcome.
