Solar in Malaysia: why Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak need different checks

HOMI Solar Malaysia: Solar in Malaysia: why Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak need different checks (illustrative project photograph)

Start with location and utility. SEDA’s Solar ATAP route, Sabah’s ECoS programmes and Sarawak Energy’s NEM information are not interchangeable. Eligibility, export treatment and submission routes must be checked under the scheme actually serving your property.

Use the right official entry point

For a Peninsular TNB proposal, check the current SEDA Solar ATAP information and utility requirements. For Sabah, consult ECoS and distinguish SELCO-PV Sabah 2.0 from Solar Rakyat Sabah. For Sarawak, use Sarawak Energy’s NEM information. Do not replace these checks with a national-looking advertisement.

Separate self-consumption and export

ECoS describes SELCO-PV Sabah 2.0 as self-consumption without export, whereas its Solar Rakyat information describes a distinct route. This difference alone changes what a sales estimate needs to model. Ask which programme is proposed and request the actual reference instead of accepting the word solar as a complete explanation.

Recheck before commitment

Confirm account type, supply and required permissions with the responsible provider. An incentive published for one programme does not establish eligibility in another region. Keep the source date in the quotation discussion and return to the authority when an account, equipment or property arrangement changes.

Before you decide

  • Record state, utility and account category.
  • Name the exact scheme and current official source.
  • Distinguish self-consumption, export and rebate conditions.
  • Recheck submission requirements before signing.

Discuss your property with HOMI

Homi Solar Malaysia can help turn these questions into a clear property brief. Start with your location, electricity use and the decision you need to make. Keep bills, identity records and detailed customer information in an appropriate private channel, not public comments. An initial discussion is not engineering approval, an accepted quotation or a rebate decision. Ask for a dated written scope, the assumptions used, exclusions and the next responsible party. Recheck changing policy with the relevant authority before committing; do not treat a general article as a personalised design or a guaranteed outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Is Solar ATAP a universal rule for every Malaysian property?

No. Use the scheme and authority applicable to the actual location and supply.

Can Sabah SELCO and Solar Rakyat be treated as the same programme?

No. They are distinct official routes and must be checked separately.

Can a Peninsular rebate forecast be copied to Sarawak?

Not without verifying the actual programme and eligibility; do not assume transferability.
